“We had been working hard during the winter season and it was pretty difficult with all the snow,” junior Kathryn Thomas said. “It’s great to know that everything still worked out and we got to go to states.”
In the boys long jump finals, senior Mikhael Cristo-Ezewoko placed 13th out of hundreds of competitors. Cristo-Ezewoko also placed seventh in the boys triple jump finals.
The girls side had more action, withseniors Caitlin Farley, Addison Buday, Calypso Rolly and Thomas placing 15th in the 4×400 meter relay and seventh in the 4×800 meter relay. Rolly also placed fifth in the girls 1000 meter finals, punching her ticket to the national competition.
“Overall, the meet went really well for us,” Rolly said. “We had a couple of PRs and I was able to qualify for nationals which is really cool.”
Now, as the runners return back to McLean, only one thing is on their minds: outdoor season. With a short turnaround from states to outdoor practices and the first outdoor meet being on March 19, the runners have their sights on finishing the 2024-25 running season with a bang.
I have my sights on a goal to end my career at McLean as prominent as possible,” Rolly said. “I am going to break the school record for the 800 meter.”
