McLean’s Model UN team held their first meeting on Tuesdsay, a follow up to their interesting meeting a week ago, to cover the logistics of Model UN. Around 70 people showed up to hear about the skills required to prepare for Model UN conferences.
“We told people who were interested in the club more about the structure of Model UN debates, some upcoming events such as tryouts for nationals and a mock conference coming up in fall,” said senior Jane Hirschberg, Chief of Staff for Model UN.
At the meeting, a slideshow was presented with important information about Model UN, and club members were able to participate in a speech activity.
“The purpose of today’s meeting was to give an introduction of Model UN, the procedure of what we do throughout the year,” said senior Jad Osta, Secretary General of Model UN. “At the end, we did a small activity where people can get comfortable with their public speaking and prove their confidence.”
As the Model UN team prepares for their first conference in October, they enthusiastically welcome new members.
“Anyone who feels strongly about international relations, law, or debate can harness those skills [through this club],” said Thecla Prentiss, the sponsor of Model UN. “Joining Model UN is an amazing way to prepare for future classes and jobs.”
