Over the past few months, Interact Club membership has increased with a variety of club activities to participate in. With considerable progress in club growth, the club is looking forward to new volunteering services.
“It’s been cool to see more students show up and take part in the service activities,” club sponsor Emily Brown said. “My hope is that it’ll keep growing and that more students will actually show up to the outside of school service.”
Building on the achievements they have already accomplished, club president Chloe Jeong strives for more volunteering opportunities to serve the community.
“I was thinking of reaching out to the senior centers for volunteering. I remember in the past, we helped with some activities such as bingo or cleaning up after the residents,” Jeong said. “We could also volunteer at soup kitchens since a lot of those are available in the DC area.”
While brainstorming for future opportunities, the club has already kickstarted their tentative plans for events in the coming months, including a meeting that would be hosted on Apr. 1 with some members of the Rotary Club present.
“I’m most looking forward to the April 1st event just because we’ve worked with the Rotary Club before and they’ve helped guide us,” sophomore Avery Hughes said. “I think their experience with volunteering has inspired us to continue with our work. They’ve also created better opportunities for us, so I think sharing our ideas with them [while] also hearing their feedback would be helpful to help improve how our club works.”
Despite previous successes, there have been challenges and hopes for the future.
“I would like for more people to join so there’s more progress in unifying the community of McLean and assisting [on] tasks that might help the general community,” Jeong said. “It’s more efficient if there’s more people [there to] spread the message of giving [rather] than receiving.”
