Girls Leadership Committee promotes Menstrual Product Drive

GLC members plan to collect menstrual products outside of CVS
GLC members from previous years gather outside the CVS in McLean to gather donated menstrual products. At this event, the members are able to pass out flyers and answer questions for community members.

On Saturday, Feb. 24, the Girls Leadership Committee (GLC) will host a donation booth in front of the CVS in McLean on Chain Bridge Road from 1 to 5 p.m. At this booth, the GLC will collect donated menstrual products and spread awareness about their product drive.

“Typically it’s the event that brings us the most products throughout the whole month,” said senior Amelia Egan, GLC co-president. “Parents, students, all of McLean goes to CVS so it gets the most people.”

This donation opportunity allows the GLC members to expand their personal connections as a club beyond the McLean student body.

“[This event] helps the drive because it lets us engage with the community directly and we get to actually see people and people get to ask questions,” Egan said.

Besides visiting the booth at CVS, students and community members can contribute to the drive by visiting the donation boxes set up at Longfellow Middle School, McLean Community Center, Falls Church Community Center and Vienna Community Center.

“We have members from GLC assigned to different locations throughout the McLean area,” Egan said. “We’ve had people go in and check up on how the boxes are going…and we’ve gotten donations from every location so far.”
