Lunch lines are an obvious hassle, from the long lines to the less than stellar quality of the food served. However, improvement is on its way. The fourth lunch line has transformed into a new lunch line, called the “Asian Station”. While the new line does not exactly improve on the length of the lunch lines, it does help to create diversity among food choices.
McLean students now have a wider range of choices thanks to the typical Asian foods that the Asian Station brings.
“I like the different choices I have now, instead of the usual American food the school serves,” junior Somaty Sin said.
While none of the food may be anything particularly special, it does incorporate the high school’s diverse population. Asian students now have a piece of a culture to make them feel more at home in McLean, and a way to connect with any other students who happen to share the same roots.
“I’m from Cambodia, so the food is pretty similar to what I’m used to having at home,” Sin said. Through connections like these, students can merge their high school, cultural, and home experiences into one.
The Asian Station is more than a simple diversification of typical lunch foods, it is a representation of the Asian population at McLean and their own culture. It is a chance to showcase the multicultural student body of the school, and each of their own individual backgrounds.
