A new season is underway, and that means Christmas and snow for most, but for others it marks the start of winter sports at McLean. The sports that fans have the highest expectations of this year are wrestling and basketball.
Last year, McLean’s wrestling team had multiple district placing wrestlers and one regional placer. While this was a great outcome to an even greater season, the expectations for this year have increased. It is only natural when there are six starting juniors from last year all returning this year as improved seniors. Also, many other teams in the region have lost a majority of their star wrestlers because they were seniors.
The boys varsity basketball team is also facing high expectations due to their stellar performance last year. They won the district and made it to the semi-finals in regionals. This outstanding performance was due in large part to last year’s starting five seniors. However, now that they are gone, the varsity team must work hard to fulfill the high expectations and standards set upon them by last year’s performance.
