McLean’s annual blood drive with INOVA Blood Donor Services will be on Monday Dec. 3. McLean has been doing the blood drive for at least five years, and the goal this year is 126 units of blood. Before you decide to donate, here are some things you need to know:
You must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- If you are under 17, you need parental consent.
- Weigh 110 lbs.
- Have some form of photo identification
- Be in good health.
- Have blood pressure less than or equal to 180/100.
You are not eligible if:
- You have gotten a tattoo from Washington, D.C., or anywhere outside of the U.S. in the past year.
- You have visited or lived in any country with malaria risk.
- You have had a seizure in the past six months.
- You have had surgery in the past 2 to 24 weeks (depending on what type of surgery it was.)
- You have had an accidental needle stick or any other non-sterile skin penetration in the past year
- You have had any cleanings or fillings from the dentist in the past 24 hours 72 hours must go by after root canals or dental surgery.
