Soon after being released from the Eagles last week, Wide receiver Desean Jackson began talks with Washington Redskins about a possible multi-year contract.
Jackson was let go from the Eagles, the same team that drafted him in the second round of the 2008 draft out of California, after they failed to agree on and resign a contract. He soon after got in contact with Washington and visited Redskins Park to negotiate a contract. How much money Jackson will earn and how lost his contract is set to last has not been disclosed yet, but it has been reported that Jackson would like 9 to 10 million a year from Washington.
The former Eagle, will be a great addition to the receiving core of the Redskins. Jackson is expected to take a large role in the offence and provide third year quarterback Robert Griffin III with more options on the field. The quarterback along with Cornerback Deangelo Hall are credited as major reasons for Jackson picking Washington over other interested teams such as San Francisco and Oakland. Hall even commented, “Jackson is the right kind of guy” for the Redskins.
Jackson caught 82 passes last season for a total of 1,332 yards. He also scored nine touchdowns and was selected as a pro bowler. The 5’ 10’’ 175 pound wide out, turned 27 this past December and is considered in his prime as far as skill and athleticism, being in the league for seven years.
Both Philadelphia and Washington are in the NFC East which means that Jackson will return to play at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time in his pro career, not as an Eagle. There will definitely be a passionate welcome from Eagles fans, but whether the greeting is cheerful or negative we will have to wait and see.
