Over this particularly cold winter FCPS has had more than its fair share of snow days. This is no ones fault but Mother Nature’s, but McLean High school administrators can choose how they handle two hour delay schedules.
With all of this time off messing with work and test dates, the constantly changing schedule for two hours delays adds another level of uncertainty. When a student walks into MHS around nine they are unsure of what classes they will be going to. Teachers are sent emails and are required to inform their students of the changes.
This creates many problems for students and teachers, who must center their lessons and studying around their class schedule. An issue that is well-known among students is how they are expected to manage their time. There are two schedules, one that includes seventh period and one that does not. They have no way of knowing whether the will be going to seventh period which creates problem when one is preparing for a test.
The first day that the two hour delay schedule was announced students began to worry because they had no prior knowledge of this change. They had not prepared to be in their seventh period class. Alternately, it also creates problems when one prepares for a class and does not end up having it.
Also, many students rely on highlander time to retake tests or do homework that they planned on completing. With all of the delays in the past month, highlander time has become a rarity which is highly inconvenient. Administrators should choose either schedule, or give students more time to adjust so that they can complete their work in a timely fashion.
