McLean’s History Honors Society (HHS) ends the third quarter with several accomplishments under its belt, including creating helpful study materials for history students and teachers and an educational field trip to the Library of Congress.
“Our members created a ton of history infographics and study materials to help people prepare for their tests and for upcoming AP exams,” said senior Zoe Adams-Christian, Director of Operations of HHS. “Members of [HHS] can create quizlets, kahoots, or notes that they can submit.”
These study materials assist students and staff in all history levels, and serve as an excellent opportunity for HHS members to serve their greater community.
“We make open access for anyone in the Honor Society to help study for any history-related classes, from regular to AP levels,” Adams-Christian said.
Furthermore, HHS made their annual field trip to the Library of Congress.
We got to see the actual Library of Congress room, and a couple people got Library of Congress cards,” Senior Alisha Seth said. “That way, they can actually go visit the library later on, so that was very cool and useful for them.”
The field trip was especially useful for those who have a deep interest in government.
“I think it’s really inspiring to see the places where the government operates day-to-day, and places where important decisions are made,” senior Maria Avazyan said. “I think it’s very interesting for anyone who wants to study government or policy in the future.”
With the last quarter around the corner, HHS hopes to continue and expand their efforts to benefit history teachers and students.
“So far we’ve been seeing a lot of success in helping students and staff in the History Department,” Adams-Christian said. “Majority of that success stems from the study materials, so with AP season around the corner, we hope we can help out the community even more.”
