As the flowers begin to bloom and the weather begins to warm, Starbucks has released a new spring menu that highlights floral and bright flavors. With that, SnackZone began its first of many weekly reviews of new foods.
Lavender Chai – 4.25/5
A classic drink paired with a new lavender cold foam, the Lavender Chai Latte has the perfect blend of floral undernotes and chai. The bitterness from the chai complimented the subtle sweetness from the lavender cold foam. Opt for add-ins like brown sugar or strawberry syrup to add another flavor dimension.
Ube Coconut Caramel Macchiato – 2.5/5
Although the Ube Coconut Caramel Macchiato did not taste bad, it was very underwhelming, as none of the Ube or Coconut flavors came through in the drink. It simply tasted like a regular macchiato—average but not exceptional.
Yuzu Citrus Blossom 4.25/5
Despite this being Starbuck’s first time releasing a citrus-flavored baked good, the Yuzu Citrus Blossom was one of our favorites on the new menu. The cruffin, or croissant and muffin, base was the perfect balance of flaky and soft, and the yuzu citrus jam provided the perfect burst of tangy flavor. The jam, however, was a little bit on the sweeter side, which slightly detracted from the flavor.
Frog Cake Pop 3.25/5
Starbuck’s cake pops are well known—for a good reason—but these frog ones turned out to be a little disappointing. Appearance wise, they are extremely cute, playing along with the spring theme. The actual cake pop turned out to be overly moist and way too sweet, and we recommend skipping this sweet treat unless you plan on taking cute springtime photos.
Overall, the springtime menu is a solid release from Starbucks, but it doesn’t rival the other seasonal releases like fall and Christmas. If you’re craving something really floral, we recommend stopping by and grabbing a couple lavender themed items before summer starts. ☀️
Thanks for stopping by the first iteration of SnackZone! Love, Rosie 🍊 and Noelle 🍒
