Thai food has become an increasingly popular cuisine for those in McLean. With several highly rated Thai restaurants nearby, Thaisons, My Home Thai, and Chiang Mai were all evaluated to see the different dining experiences and bold flavors that make these restaurants stand out.
Thaisons
Located in Tysons Corner, Thaisons delivers a dining experience that combines authentic Thai flavors with a modern atmosphere. From the moment guests walk in, the restaurant’s stylish decor and warm lighting create a welcoming environment.
The meal begins with the Ka Noom Jeeb, steamed dumplings filled with seasoned meat. The dumplings were tender and flavorful, while the accompanying dipping sauce was sweet with a savory feel to the dish.
The Salmon Krob served as the highlight of the meal. The salmon was cooked to a crisp exterior while still remaining tender inside, and the combination of peppers and garlic created a blend of spicy and savory flavors.

The ambience of Thaisaons was very well lit and decorated throughout the restaurant. The servers treat you with kindness as if you are at home.
The Shrimp Fried rice was served in a carved pineapple. Large shrimp, fresh vegetables, and pineapple pieces added texture and flavor, making the dish both visually appealing and satisfying.

Service throughout the meal was attentive and efficient. Staff members throughout the meal were friendly and ensured that dishes arrived promptly and were presented professionally.
Compared to Chiang Mai Cookhouse, another popular Thai restaurant in the area, Thaisons offers a more modern and upscale dining experience. While Chiang Mai focuses on traditional Northern Thai specialties and a more casual atmosphere, Thaisons stands out through its creative presentation and elevated approach to classic Thai cuisine.
Overall, Thaisons successfully combines strong flavors, excellent presentation, and a memorable atmosphere. For diners looking for a refined Thai restaurant near McLean and Tysons it is a destination worth visiting.
My Home Thai
Nestled in the heart of Falls Church, the newly opened My Home Thai creates a fresh and new taste of Thai food. The restaurant offers a very modern and bright environment highlighted by the pink cushions along the chairs and the chic look of the bar that sits at the center of the restaurant.
One of the main standouts was the modern bar that was centered in the restaurant which offered a plethora of fun drinks making it a great place for not only amazing Thai food but also a relaxing happy hour.

The meal started off with some small yet powerful appetizers such as the fried tofu cubes with a sweet and sour sauce and their incredibly authentic papaya salad. The papaya salad included fresh and crispy shredded papaya with a tangy and umami packed sauce that perfectly coated the fruit.

The standout of the meal was their Pad Thai that included perfectly sweet, spicy, and tangy noodles accompanied with a peanut crumble and a fresh wedge of lime. What stood out about these noodles was the perfect chewy texture that was achieved without getting either too dry or overtly mushy.

The next main course that came out was their classic thai green curry that was accompanied with a side of freshly steamed rice. The curry had a very vibrant flavor that was perfectly highlighted with the sweet creaminess of the coconut undertones creating a perfectly balanced curry.

In comparison to Thaisons, another incredibly popular restaurant in the area, My Home Thai offers a newer and brighter environment that is highlighted through the modern interior designs and creative plating techniques of the dishes.
Chiang Mai
The widely loved staple of McLean, Chiang Mai, offers customers a taste of Thailand. Sitting at 6828 Old Dominion Dr, Suite C, McLean, the restaurant serves food that has a genuine feel, making this experience simulate a journey across the world.
Inside the restaurant, the dark-wooded interior design invites customers to unwind with its cool atmosphere. Along the walls, there are trinkets and artifacts that draw guests’ attention as they wait for their meal. The layout inside allows servers to move around quickly, prevents the volume from getting too high, and enhances the ambiance for guests’ enjoyment.

Apart from the design, their high-quality service assisted all parties at the restaurant, making sure no table was left unattended. While My Home Thai may have a more recent opening, Chiang Mai has been a part of the McLean community long enough to master the speed of sending in orders and preparing them in little time.
The meal began with the Sumo Goyoza, five savory chicken dumplings served with the house soy sauce. This popular appetizer was easy to share, allowing everyone to satisfy their taste buds before the main course. Chiang Mai offers these dumplings pan-steamed or deep-fried, giving customers the option to enjoy a softer or crispier version.
Next came the main course, and each dish was fresh and full of flavor. The Drunken Noodles were cooked to perfection. The chili-garlic sauce was soaked into the rice noodles, making them soft and flavorful, while the sautéed vegetables and peppers gave it a hint of spice.
The Pad See Ew, a traditional Thai dish, had a sweet taste from the soy sauce and wide rice noodles. There was a side of raw shredded carrots that seemed pointless, but the broccoli on top was a nice use of vegetables. The Pad See Ew may not have been the star of the night, but it was still a strong contender.

Lastly, the classic Pad Thai, Chiang Mai’s best seller, was extremely savory, as the blend of peanuts, tamarind and soy sauces, eggs, and mixed vegetables created an explosion of Thai flavors. After ordering this dish, customers will surely crave eating it again.

Chiang Mai’s menu is vegetarian-friendly, as the protein options for each main entrée include tofu or veggie. This makes it an accessible restaurant option for customers of all types with mixed diets.
The dessert menu displayed a wide range of Thai treats, with illustrations to help customers satisfy their sweet tooth. Special Thai recipes, such as the Taro Custard Cake and Ga-Ti ice cream stand out as a unique experience to try in McLean.

While Thaisons and My Home Thai are strong contenders, Chiang Mai pairs the comforting feel of a family-owned restaurant with rich South Asian culture.
After visiting these three restaurants and comparing their food, service, and appearance, it is clear that each has a unique value that they bring to the table. Thaisons’ overall value and consistency, Chiang Mai’s comfortable and traditional atmosphere, and My Home Thai’s modern and creative twist to the Thai restaurant game all make them good options to anyone wanting to explore authentic Thai cuisine.
