The 2013-14 college football season has been full of surprises. Teams that should be undefeated are being beaten by unranked teams, and unranked teams that are rising in the BCS poll rankings. The teams that are not disappointing anyone though, are The Oregon Ducks and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Both having perfect records of 8-0 and no reason to stop winning, they are both bound to clash in the BCS National Championship game.
The strengths Oregon has is its superior offense, led by Sophomore quarterback, Marcus Mariota and averaging over 600 yards per game, this Oregon offense has no defense potent enough to even slow them down. Mariota has 20 passing touchdowns and 0 interceptions, this makes him the frontrunner for this years Heisman award. Oregon’s defense is underappreciated only allowing 38 points vs Washington State. Either than that 24 has been the highest points allowed on them.
Alabama is back to back reigning champions in college football, and because of that they have the Number 1 ranking in college football for two years and counting. Even though Alabama doesn’t have the best offense in football, they certainly have the best defense and they have stop every teams offense. They allowed though 42 points against Texas A&M, this shows flaw in their superior defense because Johnny Manziel and and the Aggies offense is very good. Aj Mccarron has had a Heisman worthy season, throwing 16 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
I might think that Oregon could top Alabama in the BCS Championship game, Mariota and their offense, if running on all cylinders, can expose the Crimson Tide’s defense. As the critics say, the best offense beats the best defense.
Championship Game Verdict:
Oregon 35
Alabama 28
