Starbucks has recently expanded its menu with new high-protein drink options. Launched on Sept. 29, 2025, these additions feature new “Protein Cold Foam Drinks” and “Protein Lattes” made with protein-boosted milk. Customers also have the ability to enhance their favorite drinks by adding protein cold foam or protein-boosted milk for an extra 12-31 grams of protein.
What Are They?
New Protein Drinks: The new cold foam drinks include the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha, Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte and Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew. The new protein lattes include the Vanilla Protein Matcha and Vanilla Protein Latte. These both offer a Sugar-Free version and can be ordered either hot or cold. Each drink combines classic Starbucks flavors with added protein for a healthier, more filling option.
Protein Cold Foam: A frothy topping that adds approximately 15 grams of protein per grande. Available in flavors such as vanilla, banana, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel, and seasonal options such as pumpkin and pecan, these can be added to any cold beverage for an additional $2.
Protein-Boosted Milk: A blend of 2% milk and whey protein, providing an additional 12-16 grams of protein per grande. Customers can substitute this in any hot or iced drink for about $1.
Charlotte’s Choice: Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew: 2.5/5 stars
I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve never tasted anything quite like this before. Starbucks’ new Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew is made to have 19 grams of protein in a grande, and it layers its smooth chocolate protein cold foam over their vanilla-sweetened cold brew. At first sip, the cold brew completely took over. The drink was subtly sweet and refreshingly cold, and the coffee flavor was very rich and slightly bitter. I could very faintly taste the chocolate protein foam, which was smooth and sweet, but barely noticeable under the strong coffee taste of the cold brew. Overall, the flavor wasn’t bad, but I was disappointed that the protein cold foam was so hard to taste, especially since it was the main reason I ordered the drink in the first place.
Caroline’s Choice: Iced Vanilla Protein Latte: 4/5 stars
Just like Charlotte, I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve never tried a protein latte before. Starbucks’ new Iced Vanilla Protein Latte is made with their signature espresso, protein-boosted milk and vanilla flavor, with nearly 30 grams of protein in a grande. At first sip, it tasted like a regular iced vanilla latte, tasting refreshing and creamy. The coffee flavor wasn’t too overpowering, blending perfectly with the sweetness of the vanilla. The drink felt light yet energizing and I couldn’t really taste the protein, which I liked because it made the drink feel like a regular latte but with the bonus of nutrition. Overall, this drink was a perfect mix of bitter and sweet with a hint of protein flavor.
