The McLean Highlanders turn the season around with a 13-12 win over the South Lakes Seahawks. A mostly uneventful first half gave way to an exciting second half, with the Seahawks up by 5 points at the end, senior Danny Hecht scores a touchdown just as the clock hits zero.
The first half of the McLean vs. South Lakes varsity football game was played mainly at the 50 yard line, with neither team gaining much advantage, aside from a Highlander fumble in the first few minutes of the 1st quarter, and a Seahawk fumble in the 2nd quarter.
As the 3rd quarter drew to an end, it seemed that the game might end in a tie. However, with only one minute left to go, senior Gabe Southerland scores a touchdown and the Highlanders get the extra point, making it a 7-0 game.
Not too far into the 4th quarter, the Seahawks come back with a touchdown. They go for 2 points, but senior James Howard shuts them down. A few minutes later, the Seahawks score another touchdown, and again they go for 2 extra points and the Highlanders shut them down, making the score 7-12.
Just as it looked like McLean was going to lose the game, the Seahawks fumble with about a minute to go. The Highlanders recover the ball and get all the way down to within 5 yards of the end zone. With less than 5 seconds on the clock, senior Danny Hecht goes for a QB sneak and scores a touchdown as the clock hits zero, and the McLean Highlanders win the game 13-12.
