Graduating senior Miranda Simpson received a medal for academic excellence.

Students attended Convocation yesterday to honor the achievements of members of the graduating class, with speakers from the Class of 2023 and McLean faculty.

“It was great to hear my senior class officers speak and also see which of my classmates got what awards and how they were honored for the things that they’ve been doing inside school and also outside of school,” Class of 2023 Student Government President Olivia Zhang said.

As the President of the Class of 2023 Zhang spoke in front of the school, delivering an award to Geosystems teacher Dylan Persinger.

“It was a little nerve wracking to speak a little bit, but it was really fun,” Zhang said.

After convocation was held inside, the seniors went outside for a barbecue with food and buckets of water balloons to celebrate the end of the year with friends.

“It was nice coming out afterwards for the senior barbecue because [after the] more professional thing, we also had a casual hangout,” Zhang said. “To get to see the class before we have graduation was really sentimental and sweet.”
