McLean High School’s Fashion Marketing class took a trip to New York City on Dec. 5 and 6, where the students were able to participate in numerous activities, providing them with a behind-the-scenes view of what happens in the commercial world of fashion.
The students partook in a range of activities, which included a backstage tour of Radio City Hall, a Broadway show at St James Theatre (Bring It On), a campus tour of Parsons, the new school for design, and some sightseeing and shopping at Times Square.
“The musical Bring It On was one of my favorite parts because it was relatable and very funny,” sophomore Malieka Rehman said.
In addition, the students got the opportunity to attend a fashion workshop at Madame Tussauds, where artists and designers spoke about makeup, costume, designing, design planning, wax mold procedures, special effects, and advertising.
The Fashion Marketing students found the trip to be a positive experience, as they were given opportunities they may have never gotten otherwise.
“I was able to go to places in New York that I’ve never been to before, like going to Radio City Music Hall, and we got to meet a Rockette,” Rehman said. “We got to go backstage of what happens [in fashion marketing], so that was pretty cool.”
