As the weather gets warmer, more and more artists head towards DC for the spring concert circuit. From electronic to country to the epitome of indie, below are just a few of the concerts within the next few months close enough to get to and too good to miss.
Avicii – Jiffy Lube Live – April 12
Swedish DJ Avicii is known for songs such as Wake My Up and Hey Brother, but also brings incredibly creative song mash-ups to the table during his concerts. Audience members can look forward to a non-stop night of dancing, with more in store than the select popular songs often heard on the radio. Avicii will be performing at Jiffy Lube Live, which is a fantastic venue for the spring – the outdoor acoustics will still sound amazing while providing the ability to appreciate the hopefully warm weather. Lawn tickets are still available for $40 at concerts.livenation.com.
Alabama Shakes – 9:30 Club – April 25
Lead vocalist Brittany Howard is dynamic live, leaving her soul on the stage and belting out hours of the intricate and passionate lyrics and guitar pieces which Alabama Shakes is known for. Audience members can count on a strong performance from Alabama Shakes, who have finally fully arrived in the music industry. The 9:30 Club is also a fantastic venue, providing a close-knit atmosphere compared to other DC spots such as the Verizon Center as well as being incredibly close and easy to access. Both the performers and the arena will make this concert a hard one to miss.
Dierks Bentley – Jiffy Lube Live – May 17
As the much anticipated WMZQ Fest again enthuses country fans around the area will be looking forward to Bentley as the star of performances that evening. Catchy, clever lyrics, Â exhilarating guitar riffs, and a definitive charisma characterize country-legend Dierks Bentley. Bentley is known for his fantastic interactions with the audience, lending a comraderie to the concert which is necessary in such a large venue. Ticket holders will find themselves laughing with Bentley between belting out his popular and energetic songs. Lawn tickets are still available for $38 at concerts.livenation.com, but will be selling fast as the date approaches.
The Last Bison – Depot Stage – May 31
The Last Bison is for the more indie and alternative listener. Native Virginians, the group rose out of seemingly nowhere to conquer the music industry on the national stage. The Last Bison’s artful and complex lyrics are in accord with, but do not overshadow, their tasteful instrumental pieces. The overlaying banjo and violin tunes are refined and controlled, compared to artists such as Mumford and Sons; bringing a different feel to the sound of the instrument. Conveyed meanings and complex metaphors are the norm, leaving a fervent and profound feeling in the listener. As a part of the Herndon Festival, The Last Bison will attract quite a crowd, and will be enjoyable to watch whether or not one is familiar with their completed works.
