American Hustle came out in America on Dec. 20, and it was highly anticipated because of its all-star cast. Based off of a popular screenplay, this movie is set in the 1970’s, and it follows two con-artists through their involvement with an FBI investigator.
The movie includes wonderful aesthetics that embody the seventies, and a soulful sound track that features music that was fitting for the tone. Some of the most memorable artists on the track were Neil Young and Duke Ellington.
The main love interests were played by Christian Bale and Amy Adams, who gave some life to their otherwise unlikable characters. The lack of character development was evident, except for in the case of Jennifer Lawrence, who played the volatile wife of the con artist. Her explosive performance provided some much needed comic relief to break up the monotony.
The plot itself was well thought out, but the ending was dissatisfying to say the least. The lack of depth of the characters prevented one from connecting and sympathizing with the wronged.
As a whole, the movie’s interesting premise prevented it from being a total washout. If there is no other appealing movie play in the theater, it might entertain someone slightly.
