Can Kevin Durant dethrone LeBron James in MVP voting? For the past 3 years, Kevin Durant has been considered the 2nd best player in the NBA behind LeBron James. Last year, Durant added an epic accolade to his resume by joining the 50/40/90 club which means he shot at least a 50% field goal percentage, 40% three point percentage and a 90% free throw percentage, all while competing for the scoring title. As great as this feat is, LeBron still won a unanimous voting for the MVP race last year. Can Kevin Durant step up his game and dethrone the King from his trophy? “Sorry KD but this is LeBron’s Era,” junior Sam Delano said.
The Return: In the waning moments of Game 1 blowout of first round in the 2011-2012 NBA playoffs, the city of Chicago was devastated as their star player Derrick Rose went down with a season ending ACL tear. After missing the entire 2012-2013 season, Rose is rejuvenated and eager to get out on the court to beat the Heat and silence his critics. He has said that he added 5 inches to his vertical and is quicker than before which is scary knowing how quick he already was for defenders before he was injured. He is going to be a nightmare for defenders of all kind and potentially steal the MVP away from LeBron. “Rose is going to win MVP and be the very best,” senior Mike Anthony said.
Can the Heat 3 Peat? It was July 8th of the summer of 2010. Two-time MVP and All-World talent LeBron James not only spurned his hometown Cavaliers to create an evil empire in South Beach, but also infamously claimed that by the end of his tenure with the Heat, they’ll have won not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven, but eight championships. It looks as if they are well on pace to do so, appearing in every finals since “The Big 3”’s inception. This season LeBron and the Heat will attempt to accomplish something only done 5 times in NBA history: Consecutively win three championships. Will LeBron and D-Wade secure their positions with Bill Russell, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in the exclusive pantheon of 3 peat club? Will LeBron cement his already strong argument for GOAT? Will Chris Bosh continue to embarrass himself? Only time will tell. “Charlotte Bobcats will sweep the Heat in the first round,” senior Nick Laporte said.
Brooklyn Nets @ Boston Celtics Jan 26, 2014 6:30 PM This summer, the franchise player for the Celtics and the identity of the team was traded. Paul Pierce has been on the Celtics for all of his NBA career which was 14 years and Kevin Garnett who was the identity for the defense of the Celtics and has been on the team for 6 years were shipped to Brooklyn in order to rid the high salaries that the Celtics had to pay off. Now these two are coming back to the TD Garden and it’s going to be an emotional game for the both of them. Don’t expect the Boston crowd to boo them, they are going to probably give a stand ovation as they were amnestied and did not leave because they wanted to win.
San Antonio Spurs @ Miami Heat Jan 26, 2014 1 PM For basketball fans, we all know what happened in Game 6 of the NBA Finals last year. The Spurs were going to win their fifth championship since 1999, then Ray Allen happened. That three devastated the entire city of San Antonio and demoralized the Spurs team. This year, the same squad is back from last year in Miami to seek revenge. The immortal Tim Duncan and Tony Parker are back to show Miami who really deserved to win that championship (sorry Heat bandwagoners) .
