On August 26, Taylor Swift announced her engagement to her now fiance, Travis Kelce on her Instagram account. The post featured an array of pictures displaying the couple surrounded by flowers in a beautiful garden. Fans were shocked by the news, with the post hitting 30 million likes in under 24 hours.

”I’m just so happy for her,” said sophomore Rewa Sethi, a longtime fan of Swift. “Seeing her at the Eras Tour last year was amazing, and I think that her and Travis are great together.”

Many fans are going wild upon hearing her announcement, as Swift is known for writing songs about her past relationships which often ended in heartbreak. However, despite her dating history, fans have noticed the happiness in her songs about Travis and hope that their relationship will last.

“I think she is really into him and so happy,” social studies teacher Lindsay Boerger said. “The songs she writes when she’s in love and happy are what I like to call glitter gel pen songs, because it sounds like she is 15.”

Swift and Kelce started dating around two years ago after the NFL star revealed that he tried to give the popstar a friendship bracelet with his phone number when he attended her Eras Tour concert back in July of 2023. Although his attempt was unsuccessful, the two were later able to connect, and launched their relationship publicly soon afterwards.

“When I first heard that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were together, I was very happy for them and was excited to see what’s to come,” sophomore Jessica Li said.

Although Swift has kept multiple of her past relationships in the dark, being with Kelce has been much different, as they have been seen out in public together on multiple occasions.

“I feel like she tends to be with moody actors or musicians, but she needs a nice teddy bear kind of guy who’s more fun,” Boerger said.

The professional athlete proposed to Swift with a custom vintage-inspired cut diamond on a gold engraved band. The ring was between eight and 15 karats. It was designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, and was estimated by experts to be worth between $550,000 and $1 million.

“I wasn’t picturing her getting a ring from a place like Kay Jewelers, [or] having it be the newest, shiniest rock,” Boerger said. “I feel like she loves antiques and appreciates an older throwback style.”

All fans can do right now is speculate what the wedding will be like. After the amount of media coverage Swift and Kelce have faced throughout their relationship, fans think it would be best for them to have a small, private ceremony.

“I don’t want their wedding to be a huge publicity thing, it should be more intimate with just family and close friends to avoid paparazzi,” Li said. “She deserves that with Travis after searching for a guy like him for so long.”

For Swift, her love story didn’t just turn into a song, but this time it became a vow; the kind only in her wildest dreams.
