Fall Out Boy took the stage at Fairfax, Virginia’s Patriot Center on Sept. 10 as the fifth stop of their Save Rock and Roll tour. A good mix of new songs and well-known hits made sure there was something for everyone in the sold out audience.
Fall Out Boy had two opening acts, twenty one pilots and Panic! at the Disco. Both delivered performances that were just as amazing the main attraction. Panic! at the Disco gave an especially energetic rendition of their new song “Miss Jackson” from their upcoming album Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die.
Their one and a half hour set started off strong with their latest song “The Phoenix.” Patrick Stump’s expressive and soulful voice vibrated through the arena and quickly energized the crowd. They followed up with old time favorites like “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More ‘Touch Me’,” “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” and “I Don’t Care.” The crowd sang along with pop-punk anthems like “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up).”
However, the band did not neglect to add a little variety to their set with a few slower songs. Their acoustic rendition of “Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy,” showed off their maturity and versatility, proving they are more than just a one-note band. The show ended with one of the band’s personal favorites, “Saturday.” They paid tribute to famous rock and roll artists throughout their set, staying true to the theme of saving rock and roll.
The tour signals a great start to their comeback after a four year hiatus. Overall, Fall Out Boy’s high energy performance made their concert a truly memorable event.
