Senior class officers kick off the year
Senior officers present upcoming events virtually
The senior class officers posted this on their Instagram to get seniors excited to attend the virtual meeting. The meeting was held during Highlander Time 8 on Oct.14.

Every year brings a new group of seniors. Although the class of 2021 is having an unusual start, the senior class officers are rolling with the punches.
“The biggest change is the event planning since we’re not in person this year,” said Eliana Durkee, a senior class officer. “It’s forced us to be more creative in the planning process, and we’re constantly looking for feedback on how we can make senior year better while we are still being safe.”
Unfortunately, this year’s seniors will not be able to participate in traditions typically enjoyed by the senior class.
“We have had to change the activities we planned to make sure they are safe and socially distanced,” said Grace Liberty, a senior class officer.
This past Wednesday was the first virtual senior class meeting held through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra; during the meeting, seniors were informed of what to expect for the upcoming school year. The senior class officers have planned spirit events for the next few months, such as the Halloween drive on Oct. 30, where seniors dress up in costumes, and drive by school for an ice cream treat.
“The activities we plan for the seniors aim to celebrate all they have accomplished so far and help them feel excited for graduation,” Liberty said.
Senior officers also went over logistical dates for graduation, the Highlander Internship Program (HIP), and more.
“Seniors should have submitted their measurements for grad caps and gowns,” Durkee said.
The senior trip to Hershey Park and virtual Ethics Day were also discussed during this meeting. Currently, the events are scheduled for May. 25 and Dec. 16, respectively. Despite these dates, due to COVID-19, they have not been finalized.
Even though the end of the year is unclear, the senior class officers are trying to make the best out of these unusual circumstances.
“We know this year has not been what seniors were expecting,” Durkee said. “The student government sponsors and members are doing their very best to celebrate their accomplishments and make this a year filled with fond memories.”
