The 2018 NFL Draft brought eight new players to Washington including two Alabama defenders: defensive tackle Da’ron Payne, and linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton. The NFL has gone stir-crazy for South Eastern Conference (SEC) players, including schools like college football powerhouse Alabama, Georgia, and LSU. Two of which played for the national title in January.

The Redskins focused heavily on their defense, specifically the front seven, using three of their seven picks on defensive line players and a linebacker. The Skins also brought in two somewhat local players from Virginia Tech: defensive tackle Tim Settle, and cornerback Greg Stroman, in the fifth and seventh round, respectfully.

However, the most anticipated addition is running back Derrius Guice out of LSU, who the Redskins took with the 59th pick of the Draft after he fell from being the number one running back prospect after last season.

“Guice is a walking highlight reel and should be a huge help to the fairly weak run game the Skins had last year,” junior Derrick Charles said.

With the additions in the draft the Redskins should have a better chance at competing this season, although they will still have to play the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, twice this upcoming season.

“The Skins still didn’t do enough to be able to beat the Eagles for the NFC East Division title, but they might have done enough to be a wild-card team this year,” senior, and avid Eagles fan, Max Brooks said.

Hopefully, it will be enough to carry the Redskins into the playoff conversation this year but everything is speculation until we see what these players can do in-game.
