This year, the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is working on spreading the message that everyone is accepted and should feel free to express themselves. English teacher Seth LeBlanc sponsors the GSA.

“It is a place for people to come together,” LeBlanc said.

This is LeBlanc’s second year as sponsor of the club.

“Being sponsor is satisfying,” LeBlanc said.

His goal is to create a safe place for kids of the LGBTQA+ community. The club celebrated National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11.  They will also hand out candy on holidays.

“My favorite thing we did in the GSA was painting the rock at the end of last year,” LeBlanc said.

He enjoyed the experience and liked how everyone, not just GSA members, could see the rock.

LeBlanc said that one of the challenges the GSA is working on overcoming is becoming more socially active in order to spread their message. LeBlanc described the staff at McLean as very accepting of the club but he noted that some parents of students in the LGBTQA+ community are not accepting. His goal is to make everyone feel accepted and welcome.

The GSA meets in room B167 after school every Wednesday.
