On Oct. 16, the Interact club recently conducted a meeting in Bridget Donoghue’s room 176, to focus on making dog toys to donate to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, a nonprofit animal rescue foundation.

“The dog toys are made from cut straps of old T-shirts that are braided together into ropes for them to chew,” club president senior Carlyn Kranking said. The members center their service to fulfill their mission of providing “service above self.”

“We are here to provide extra support for those less fortunate,” Interact sponsor Bridget Donoghue said. The Interact club mainly serves the McLean area, different from other service clubs.

“Members seek out projects in the community that will allow them give encouragement to the community and make someone’s day,” Donoghue said. Through these projects, members learn skills that will be apply to apply to the future.

“Interact can help build leadership, social, and organization skills, which I think will have real-life experience,” Donoghue said. Interact has become entirely student-run, which has allowed its members to take on a more active role in the club to fulfill its mission.

“I see an eagerness in members to volunteer not solely for service hours, but because they really enjoy doing it,” Kranking said. Members have been motivated to help those in the community and want to others to participate.

“Giving back to the community is just an all-around enjoyable activity. [I think] it’s really important to take time to look outward and do something for others,” Kranking said.
