With upcoming releases of highly anticipated game titles, this is one of the best times to be an avid video game player. Game connoisseurs across all platforms should be excited for the major upcoming releases for the remainder of 2026.
Star Fox (June 25) – Releasing on Switch 2
The remake of the classic game Star Fox 64 caters to fans of older Nintendo titles. The game will feature a campaign mode in which the player follows Star McCloud on a space adventure to stop the evil mad scientist Andross from destroying the Lylat System. It will also include a 4-vs-4 battle mode using online or local multiplayer. Star Fox is also expected to support Nintendo Game Chat, provide controller support for the Joy-Con 2 in mouse mode and the official Nintendo 64 wireless controller.
Phantom Blade Zero (Sept. 9) – Releasing on PlayStation 5, PC
Phantom Blade Zero will follow an elite assassin who is framed for murdering his organization’s leader and is given 66 years to live. The style of this game will blend “Kung Fu Punk” with a steampunk environment. This action-packed title will also include intricate combat mechanics utilizing over 20 weapon styles. Specifically, it will incorporate “Souls Like” mechanics, such as having an entirely different NPC each encounter, rather than reappearing enemies. The game is expected to feature multiple difficulty settings, allowing casual players and hardcore gamers to experience the game at their own pace.
Marvel’s Wolverine (Sept. 15) – Releasing on PlayStation 5
With the popular releases of Marvel games in the past by Insomniac—such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel, Spider-Man 2—fans of the game should be excited to see the fan favorite character, Wolverine, become playable. Marvel’s Wolverine will be a single-player action-adventure game where Wolverine seeks to uncover his dark past. Several other popular Marvel characters will be introduced in the game, such as Mystique, Omega Red and the Reavers enemy faction, making this game not one to miss.
Grand Theft Auto VI (Nov. 19) – Releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
The Grand Theft Auto franchise is returning with a new game, and the new developments should bring excitement after a 12-year-long wait. The map of the new game is twice the size of that of the last title, Grand Theft Auto V, and includes locations such as Vice City, Leonidas Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The game also features massive interiors and lifelike phones and law enforcement, making the game one of the most realistic games of all time.
