McLean The McLean High School girls tennis team continued its dominance with an 8-1 victory over Marshall on Tuesday, improving to 13-0 and reinforcing its position at the top of the district standings.
From the start, McLean controlled the matches with steady play across both singles and doubles. The Highlanders built an early lead and never let up, showing the depth and consistency that have defined their undefeated run. Every part of the lineup contributed with players minimizing errors and staying composed in longer rallies.
“We’ve been really locked in at practice, and it’s showing in matches,” sophomore Jessica Li said. “Everyone knows their role, and we push each other to stay consistent.”
The consistency was on full display against Marshall, as McLean secured points efficiently and prevented any shift in momentum. Even in the tighter matches, the Highlanders stayed patient and relied on smart shot selection rather than forcing difficult shots.
“We trust each other a lot more this season,” sophomore Roxanna Sharafi said. “Even when matches get tight, we stay calm because we know someone else is going to step up.”
With one regular season match remaining against Langley, McLean is focused on finishing strong while preparing for the postseason. The rivalry matchup will serve as a final test before district and regional play begins.
“Going undefeated is great, but we want to carry this into districts and regionals,” Li said. “Our goal is to make a deep run and compete for a title.”
The Highlanders want to finish what they started last year and are out for revenge against their out-of-district rival in Oakton, who defeated them last year and crushed their chances at a state title.
As the postseason approaches, McLean’s combination of depth, discipline, and confidence makes it a strong contender. At 13-0, the Highlanders are not just winning matches, they are trying to set the standard for what a championship team looks like for years to come.
“Every match from here on out matters more, and we want to be playing our best tennis at the end of the season,” Li said.
