People We Meet on Vacation was released on Jan. 9, 2026, as a standalone movie adaptation of the contemporary romance novel by Emily Henry. Following its release, the movie quickly reached second place on Netflix’s top 10 Movies list, drawing 23.3 million views in its first week on Netflix.
The movie follows the two main characters, Poppy and Alex. Poppy is an energetic, adventurous character who spends her life working for a travel company and exploring the world for a living. She quickly establishes traveling as an outlet of freedom and an escape from her hometown trauma. On the other hand, Alex is calm and organized, with his personality shining through his everyday actions from his morning runs to his strict itineraries.
Throughout the plot, he and Poppy quickly discover each other’s lifestyles and take an interest in becoming friends. Their clash in personalities adds a greater depth to the storyline by establishing how polar opposites can be drawn to each other.
The movie itself was extremely engaging, with a storyline that includes jumps between the past and the present. Each jump follows the unveiling of new information regarding Poppy and Alex’s relationship. Additionally, each scene is incredibly colorful and full of life, reflecting Poppy’s bright personality.
Emily Bader also does a wonderful job playing Poppy and capturing her enthusiastic yet impulsive personality, along with her unique style. Her chemistry with Tom Blyth is extremely refreshing and natural, especially through all of their dynamic changes within the movie. Tom Blyth is also the perfect Alex and plays the put-together character perfectly.
Overall, the actors, storyline and small details come together to form a wonderful, engaging romance movie.
