Located on Chain Bridge Road, Meow Town Cat Lounge launched with a soft opening on Jan. 16 as both a cat adoption center and relaxation spot. Meow Town offers a space for people to unwind and destress while also helping cats find permanent homes. For $25, you can enjoy 50 minutes of adorable cats.
Upon entering Meow Town, there is a clear New York theme with mementos from the city littering the interior. The staff will take your coat and remind you of the rules for the experience. After that, you are welcome to play with the cats around the room. There were around 10 of them when I arrived.
Soft music played in the background as I tended to the animals, and despite the abundance of cats, the room smelled nice. There were also no issues with cats using the bathroom.
The staff was extremely attentive and enthusiastic, offering me a treat to give to the cats and giving insight to each of the cats’ unique quirks.
During the experience, I was able to feed, play and pet the cats. There was a basket of toys and lots of climbing structures for the animals to enjoy. The space also featured chairs and couches for the customers.
As I made my rounds around the lounge, I met many cats with a wide variety of personalities and characteristics. All of the cats are available for adoption, and Meow Town offers them a space to learn to be comfortable around people, further helping them find a forever home. Even if not in the market for adoption, it is still relaxing and amusing to play with the cats and observe them.
It is important to note that Meow Town is not a café, but a lounge. They did offer complimentary prepackaged snacks and drinks, but there are no fresh items offered.
Meow Town undoubtedly succeeds in creating a cozy and enjoyable experience, whether you are in the market for adoption or simply looking to spend time with some adorable kittens. With its warm, welcoming atmosphere, Meow Town is the perfect place to relax from the hustle of everyday life.
