On the evening of Jan. 28 Fairfax County Public Schools announced a two hour early release for Jan. 29. The School Board decided to call the early release because of the anticipated snow and freezing rain that could cause the elementary school students, who normally get out at 3:35 p.m., to walk home or from the bus in the freezing cold and freezing rain.

The weather forecast for today is snow showers from 3-5 p.m. with a high of 37 degrees and a low of 7 degrees. This cold weather plus the snow/rain could cause people to catch a cold or worse slip and fall.

The weather today follows the same pattern that has been going on for the past week of coldness, snow and ice that the FCPS School Board has worked to respond to in a timely manner.

“I’m really happy about the snow day. I think it was a really smart move by the School Board. I’m going to take a nap as soon as I get home,” junior Will Valinote said.
