As the fall sports season comes to a close, winter coaches are eager to fill their roster for the upcoming season.

Students trying out for winter sports: basketball, gymnastics, indoor track, swim, dive, and wrestling endured the length of tryouts. Tryouts took the span of a week for most sports, each day getting more vigorous and competitive.

“I was nervous because there were a lot of good players trying out [and] parts of tryouts would get really hard because we had to do a lot of running,” sophomore Emma Messer said.

Although tryouts can be nerve racking for some, for others it was simply a refresher from previous seasons.

“I wasn’t that nervous for tryouts because I was on the team last year, it was fun to see and practice with my teammates and coaches again,” sophomore Amelia Zug said.

Not all students may have made the teams they were hoping for, but for the most part coaches and students are impatient for the upcoming season to begin.

“I am excited to spend time with my teammates, learn from the upperclassmen, and compete in meets with the team,” Zug said.

Look for upcoming game schedules to support your fellow peers and McLean High School sports. Winter sports are optimistic for a successful season this year.

“I’m really excited, the girls on the team are really good and I’m hopeful for how the year will turn out,” Messer said.
