Laugh More Stress Less week remedies students’ anxieties

In the wake of AP Exams and finals, students are experiencing peak levels of stress. To help remedy the stress and anxiety of students, Leadership students organized a “Laugh More Stress Less” this past week.

Throughout the week during lunches there were various activities and treats for students to enjoy. The week began with a visit from the therapy dogs, a student favorite. The dogs are usually brought in at the end of each quarter as that is the time when students are overwhelmed with work and are susceptible to some of the pains of high school.

“I love the therapy dogs. It is so nice being able to pet the dogs even if it just for a few minutes. They really help me relax and temporarily forget about all the work I have to do,” senior Nadien Gad said.

Along with the visit from the therapy dogs, Leadership students brought in rolls upon rolls of bubble wrap for students to pop. Although the sound was a bit irritable for some, the satisfying feel of the pop of each bubble was a good mini stress reliever.

Laugh More Stress Less also brought with it a sno-cone stand in the courtyard across from the cafeteria hosted by the school guidance counselors. There were plenty of different flavors to add onto the loads of ice that there was, which made for a nice cool-down snack on one of the hottest days of the week.

“The sno-cones were really good. It was the perfect day for them because it was so hot,” senior Jake Parker said. “I really wanted to go for seconds.”

On Wednesday, Leadership brought out a long sheet of white paper and put it across a few tables in the courtyard for students to finger paint freely on it. Students wrote messages such as “Be happy” or “:) more.”

“The finger painting was probably my favorite, after the therapy dogs of course,” Gad said. ” I never get to do that kind of thing and it was also cool how I could write something that reflected feelings that I should be feeling that sometimes get lost in all the madness of this time of year.”

It seemed as though Laugh More Stress Less week was a hit among students. The activities and such really seemed to help students take their minds off of the craziness of exams and finals.

“They should organize these kinds of weeks more often,” Gad said. “These are not the only weeks in the year that are stressful.”

To make the week even better, there was also a senior ice cream day and a prom runway at the end of the week. E
