College basketball update: from the ACC to the PAC-12

This season is going to be a one for the books for NCAA men’s basketball.

As the curtain opens for NCAA men’s college basketball, it is a time of joy and excitement for all college basketball fans around McLean. This season is definitely going to be one to remember when analyzing the top teams in the ACC. The Duke Blue devils have always been formidable opponents when it comes to college basketball and this year is no different. Duke is in luck to have players such as Grayson Allen, Marvin Bagley III, Trevon Duval, and Alex O’Connell carrying the fresh team every game. After the team’s recent victory of the Michigan State Spartans the Blue devils have definitely proven themselves after defeating the Number 2 ranked team in the country. As we move over to the Big east, the Maryland terrapins are looking sharper as ever and Georgetown shows potential this season.

Seton Hall has always been the dark horse of the division and may show up when it is time to play. Villanova has still yet to return to the final four and win a championship but this year could be the year for them. Going back to the ACC, UNC has a promising group of players that have already shown they have what it takes to win a national championship. Joel Berry II and Seventh Woods are taking the roles of leader on the team and are expected to show-out when the lights are on the hardwood.

UVA is looking proud this season and might be able to prove something along with Miami, potentially in the tournament. Several big name players like Collin Sexton, Jaylen Hands, and Michael Porter Jr. have high expectations from fans across the nation. The season has just started and already drama has stuck the NCAA specifically the PAC-12. UCLA’s LiAngelo Ball looks to make a comeback from his downfall off the court. ACC power house Kentucky looks to embrace their dynasty of dominance through their collective team effort but they don’t appear as dominant now compared to previous seasons.

UCLA looks ready to dominate the PAC-12 and they are lead by Jaylen Hands whose ball handling skills or past proficient. Michael Porter Jr. has generated the most hype around the NCAA and looks to lead his team to a dominant season. Maryland’s Justin Jackson was solid his last season and is expected continue improving and to carry Maryland to victory.  McLean college basketball fans have never backed down from supporting their teams.

“I’ve been a Syracuse fan since I started watching college basketball and I think they’re going to be good this season, ” senior Chris Schram said.

Additionally, Syracuse has high expectations to live up to as NBA players Dion Waiters and Carmelo Anthony both carried the team to division success. College basketball always attracts new fans and theirs always a team to root for, even for new fans.

“From what I’ve seen so far UVA looks like the team for me, ” senior Dev Ghosh said.

This season of college basketball is going to be one of the most exciting seasons yet as old faces return and the new players on the team are ready to prove themselves.
