I have always been a fan of Ed Sheeran and am excited whenever he releases new music. When it was announced that his third studio album, Divide, would be different from his past work I was worried. Sheeran is known for his love ballads and his catchy upbeat songs that receive a lot of radio play.

The album was released more than a month ago, however, it is still number two on the Billboard 200. With the album becoming and staying so popular, I had to listen to it despite my worries of it ruining my image of Sheeran.

Thankfully, I had nothing to be worried about. The best part about this album is that it certainly lives up to the expectations. Sheeran is expected to create catchy original songs and this album surpasses any work he has done in the past.

Some songs are similar to Sheeran’s tunes from the past and old listeners will definitely keep enjoying his ballads.

Other songs, however, display a completely new style. In “Galway Girl” and “Nancy Mulligan”, Sheeran reconnects with his Irish heritage to create catchy tunes. Although they are different from the songs he usually sings, they still retain one of the most important aspects of an Ed Sheeran song—a story that is told through the lyrics.

There is not a single song on Divide that strays from Sheeran’s message. Not only is every song catchy, but they all also have amazing lyrics which tell a story that is personal to Sheeran.

Ed Sheeran is always a singer to watch and his latest album deserves all the praise it has received. Although it did not seem possible, Sheeran has somehow outdone himself. The album is  worth listening to from start to finish and on repeat.
