On Jan 29, just days after the revolutionizing Women’s March on Washington, tens of thousands of people, ranging from young to old, gathered in cities and airports across the nation to protest President Trump’s immigration ban on predominantly Muslim countries. The heart of the protest took place in Washington D.C where protesters marched and stood outside the White House and the Trump International Hotel in Northwest Washington.

The protests followed spontaneous rallies that broke out across major airports, such as Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

The protests took place after Trump signed an executive order which bans the admission of Syrian refugees and suspends travel to/from major Muslim countries, such as Syria, Iran, Iraq, on the grounds of national security. The said order has also led to the detention and deportation of hundreds of  people arriving at airports across the United States.

Trump defended the order in a statement saying the United States would resume issuing visas to all countries once secure border control policies were set in place over the next 90 days.

In Washington D.C. protesters walked the half mile from Trump International Hotel to the White House chanting, “shame, shame, shame.” Some other chants included, “say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here.”
