As the end of the school year is nearing, clubs are eyeing next year with anticipation. Chinese Club, being one of them, has concluded a series of presentations covering the four great classic novels of China before establishing the available leadership positions for club members to apply for.
“Hong Lou Meng, along with the other three famous novels, [are] very classic Chinese literature arts that demonstrate Chinese literature,” club president senior Chengbo Kan said. “They’re basically like the Shakespeare of [China].”
Upon introducing the officer positions, those reviewing the applications will have higher expectations based on this year's performance.
“[Members] should be expected to show up to every single meeting, especially the media coordinator because she or he is responsible for taking pictures [for the club],” Kan said.
With a new wave of leadership, there are visions of improved organization.
“I hope the new officers know how to manage the club [better] with a goal,” sponsor and Chinese teacher Kuan-Chen Pearson said.
Other than within the club, members also wish to see the club connect with students outside the community.
“I hope that we can have promotional activities in the school that shares Chinese culture to those born in the U.S,” junior Ziheng Ni said.
Despite the aspirations for the future, the past year has proven to be valuable to those participating in the club.
“I think they really like to come [to the club] to see their [friends],” Pearson said. “That's why they are willing to come here, so I think they have [grown closer].”
