With finals and AP exams approaching, the McLean leadership took it upon themselves to find a way to relieve students’ stress using a fun and lighthearted environment.
“March is a very long month with lots of full weeks of school in a row,” leadership teacher Karen McGraham said. “As a way to give everybody a little bit of a break, the leadership class suggested more Highlander Time Flex.”
This decision came mostly from the students in leadership and Dr. Reilly, who worked together to create something for students to look forward to each week. While there were many options, the leadership team chose Highlander Time Flex for multiple reasons.
“This was much more manageable,” McGraham said. “We figured most kids like Highlander Time Flex, and they like being able to pick and choose where to go.”
This new system has been implemented since the beginning of March, ensuring that there is at least one Highlander Time Flex every week. This strategy has proven to be very effective, as most students take the time to unwind with their friends.
“I’ve always liked Highlander Time Flex since I can see my friends from other classes and sit outside,” sophomore Gia Ayers said.
There will be one more Highlander Time Flex on Friday, March 28. Leadership also hopes to host an event outside on April 7, depending on weather. Once McLean returns from spring break, the Highlander Time schedule will go back to normal.
“We want to give everybody something to look forward to,” McGraham said, “Highlander Time Flex is good during a stressful week.”
