In mid-March, marketing students at McLean will host Market Day in the Lecture Hall, where they will resell products and materials purchased online in an attempt to turn a profit. For now, students are deep in preparation for the event.
“We’ve been doing research on what types of products would be the most suitable for [McLean’s] demographic,” junior Maged Al Qabany said. “We’ve been creating slides to analyze our project and analyze the product that we’re trying to sell. We’ve also been looking at different aspects of marketing like price points, considering we have a budget of only $50.”
Taking into account the wants and needs of students is central to the Market Day task. Starting now, marketing students will begin to conduct research on the student body to determine what to sell.
“Students are choosing what to make or buy at this stage, conducting research within their classes,” entrepreneurship teacher Debra Dove said. “They will be distributing surveys through a Google Form to a wider audience to make sure what they plan to offer is feasible. Then, they start working on pricing and marketing. Once the dates get closer, we will be pushing out our message across multiple platforms.”
