Located next to the LOOK Dine-In Cinema, The Boro hides an underrated ice cream shop that deserves to be tasted. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams can be recognized by its colorful interior and classic furnishings, making the shop an ideal environment to visit with friends on a hot day. The store contains 37 ice cream flavors, some featured throughout various seasons. Jeni’s introduced Goat Cheese With Red Cherries this spring, which has already become one of their most popular flavors. We only tried four flavors, but we can guarantee there’s an ice cream for everyone to enjoy.
Coffee with Cream and Sugar – 4/5
This flavor was a flawlessly elevated version of regular coffee ice cream. The cream was apparent, as every bite was extremely smooth. The sugar also added a subtle sweetness, which helped balance out any bitterness in the coffee flavoring. My only comments would concern the taste and the feeling it left in my mouth. At the end of each bite, the ice cream became a little more grainy, and the flavor grew very faint. Still, with each new bite, that grainy feeling and faint taste were reversed, as the ice cream continued to provide a vibrant flavor. Overall, I would give this ice cream a 4/5, as there were elements that could have been improved, but the overall flavor was enjoyable.
Texas Sheet Cake – 3/5
Texas Sheet Cake is a special dairy-free ice cream alternative that Jeni’s offers. The secret to this dairy alternative is coconut. The first thing I noticed was the taste of the coconut against the chocolate flavoring. I found this coconut flavoring too heavy, and it took away from the taste of the rest of the ice cream. Additionally, since it doesn’t include any cream, the texture is much rougher, and I found my ice cream was chunky and so thick that I could almost have used a fork. Still, I will say that the chocolate chunks were a nice added touch, and the chocolate flavor that was there was pleasant, while not too rich. Altogether, this ice cream will receive a 3/5 stars, as the coconut is still steps away from being the go-to dairy alternative.
Darkest Chocolate – 5/5
Featured on Jeni’s “most popular flavors” list, this ice cream should be a go-to for chocolate lovers. The dessert certainly lives up to its name with a slightly bitter but rich dark chocolate flavor enhanced with a smooth and velvety consistency. Some chocolate ice creams can come off a bit too sweet or processed, but Jeni’s does a fantastic job making the taste authentic and intense to the perfect extent. The dark chocolate does make this ice cream more susceptible to fast melting, so this is a treat that should be eaten quickly, but that isn’t a hard task when the ice cream is incredibly delicious. There’s a reason this flavor falls into one of Jeni’s most popular flavors. As a whole, the Darkest Chocolate ice cream deserves a perfect 5/5.
Double Dough – 3/5
If you’re looking for something to fill a sugar craving, this ice cream will surely do the trick. As one of the new flavor arrivals, I had to give it a try. Not only are there plentiful amounts of cookie dough chunks provided, but the ice cream itself is also cookie-dough flavored. Although this amplifies the cookie dough’s flavor, the ice cream was too sweet for me. Some bites just tasted like eating spoonfuls of sugar, which was great for the first few mouthfuls, but quickly became too overpowering. The freely provided piece of cone garnishing the ice cream saved this dessert by balancing just a bit of the sweetness. Overall, this ice cream earned a rating of 3/5.
