Senior Vernon Ngo has been a sensation for the McLean pickleball team since its conception. For the Oct. 28 match against Langley, he teamed up with fellow pickleball star, senior Jonathan Truong, to handle the Langley squad.
“We haven’t faced any real competition yet,” Ngo said. “We are looking to find a challenge in the playoffs and win it all.”
Ngo and Truong were aggressive out of the gates, causing their opponents to panic on returns. The Saxons struggled to gain any rhythm as Ngo and Truong dominated the pace of play.
“We played a great game,” Ngo said. “ We fought hard and did what we had to do.”
Ngo and Truong both had impressive shots throughout the match. At one point, Ngo went between his legs on a tough return near the endline.
“I tried to go for a few trick shots. Some were successful, some were not, but it was overall a great match,” Ngo said.
The top duo will have to continue to work hard as they start to face tougher opponents throughout the season. Ngo has tremendous faith in his partner Truong and vice versa.
“Jonathan is a great player. I’ve known him for a while since I was in fifth grade,” Ngo said. “We started pickleball together and it was great playing with him.”
The team chemistry was evident in the match and the duo will stay together in future matches to give the Highlanders the best shot to win a championship. Overall, the new club has had great success and will look to build a legacy for this season and years to come.
“The win was a big step for what is to come in future matches,” Ngo said. “We will continue to practice and play with the intention of winning our first championship and maintaining success in future seasons.”
