Students take advantage of summer jobs

McLean students seize the opportunity to work over the summer

People are always on the look for workers

Warm weather brings great job opportunities for high schoolers all over America, jobs that range from lots of requirements to very little past experience. One of the things students need to have fun during the year is money but with a busy schedule it can sometimes be hard to get.

A great job for teens is being a lifeguard at a local pool, as it looks great on college applications and it’s a good opportunity to learn life skills like CPR.

“Last summer I worked as a lifeguard and fully intend on working again,” sophomore Nicholas Morabito said.

Many restaurants and coffee shops offer spots to minors in the workplace.

“I’ve been working at Starbucks for a while now and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made, the environment is awesome,” sophomore Jamir Coleman said.

With many establishments hiring teens there are a large amount of restaurants and shops teens can apply for in house or even online.

“Applying was simple and the people were very kind; the staff helped me ease in and get used to everything,”  Coleman said

Money isn’t the only thing students can get out of a job; it provides valuable leadership and life skills.

“I learned how to be a role model at the pool for people that came,” Morabito said
