Winter sports just finished their tryouts, and of all the sports, boy’s basketball is looking greatly improved. An almost brand new roster and perennial coach Michael O’Brian look to secure a winning season this year.
“I think that we can win a lot of games. People doubt us, but I think we really have it in us to amaze people against their low expectations,” senior Andrew Lopez said. “It’s a different style team this year, I think we want to get out and run more and score in the transition more often.”
As Highlander spirit increases, the student’s expectations for Mclean sports are rising as well.
“We have put a lot of effort into creating a new environment concerning sports and our school spirit, so I think it’s time that our teams start to step up to the occasion,” senior Zeeshan Khaliq said. “Our freshmen need something to look forward to and build upon.”
“This year we have a freshman on the varsity team, which is a little different, but he can really ball,” Lopez said.
It is a fresh team, with a new look and they are hoping to bring everything they can to help regain the respect of the Highlander community after years of disappointment.
