A Fan of the Books

After re-reading the books in anticipation of the release of the new movie, I was excited to finally be able to experience the last part of Katniss’s journey. However, I was nervous the entire movie as I waited for major events to occur and counted down the minutes till scenes I did not want to see.
The costumes and makeup are superior and the crew is able to bring the capital citizens to life, showcasing the glitz and glamour of the capital while still maintaining the focus on the story’s main characters.
The special effects add to the excitement, causing every action scene to jump out and every step to seem lifelike. Subtle enough to not take away from the main plot line, the effects instead add depth to a story which would have otherwise seemed dragged out and repetitive.
The actors shine in the movie, and Jennifer Lawrence shows breathtaking emotions in every scene as she struggles with her own ideals and the fight against the capital.
Josh Hutcherson, a brilliant portrayal of Peeta, one so unbelievable that it is impossible to distinguish the actor from the character.
The movie follows the book accurately, taking a few artistic choice but still keeping the story line intact. At times the movie ignores the emotional struggle experienced by the characters as they attempt to comprehend horrific events, and relies heavily on the actors to convey the emotional journey following the games.
As the ending to a popular series, Mockingjay Part Two is definitely a must see movie which all lovers of the book will enjoy.

The movie was a disappointment.
Walking into the theater I was looking forward to a thrilling following of the legacy Mockingjay part one left. What I watched, however, was a mediocre excuse for the ending of an amazing series of movies.
I did not read any of the books in the series and blindly put my trust into the producers’ hands anticipating the best of the series as the movie was set up with a cliffhanger that left me on the edge of my seat for a year. Because I had no knowledge of the scenes to come, I was left hoping that every scene following the last would prove to be just a bit better.
I will give props to the producing team for the astounding effects and set designs. I enjoyed the similarities the capitol layout had to the arena, and the costuming also earned a star from me. The distinctions between each stage of the movie through the clothing worn excited me and made the inadequate plot easier to bear.
Another satisfactory point to the film goes to the make up team, the movie was filled with emotional and dramatic scenes, the make up done on actors such as Josh Hutcherson really added to their emotional portrayal of their characters.
The film failed in the most important aspect though: plot. I do not know if the movie accurately followed the book, but the ending to the amazing series did not live up to any standards I set for it. The plot twists rather than thrilling simply confused me and the very ending of the film was a prolonged and stretched ending which ended in a cute but oddly worded scene, the dialog spoken sounded like it was written by just another cliche author.
All in all the film is okay to watch if you are a fan of amazing acting and aesthetics, just don’t look for any thrill from the part.
