Each year the art department at McLean High School celebrates their work through a week long art show from June 1-5 in the dance room. The seniors take the spotlight and have their own free standing exhibition in the center of the room. The show is a combination of some of the work that they have done over the past few years.
“It’s great inspiration for future art students or anybody who makes art. It’s been a great experience for me,” senior Elisha Choi said.
The art work represented in the show is submitted from students from every grade and from all parts of the department. The students do the curating themselves, and use the room as a place for others to see their hard work.
“I just like letting the students do all the setting up. It’s interesting because I’ve been working with them all year and I don’t know prior to Monday(when the show started) what they are going to do [with their work],” Kenny George, head chair of the Fine Arts Department at McLean High School said.
There is work shown in the halls throughout the year, but this exhibit served as an opportunity for the art department to share their work at a single event at the school. There was an art show at the McLean Community Center in March, but this show is a way that the faculty and students can see their work at a more local level.
“My concept is that I want to let people walk on my stuff. I tried to put my stuff in an unflattering perspective and an unflattering angle, so I just wish that people could walk over and get them to be more interactive,” senior Suhyun Yoon said.
Her work is covered with Plexiglass and the words “Walk on me” are emblazoned across it. (Right)
The exhibit showed many different types of themes. Some were more classic (bottom right) and some more modern(bottom left).
