Coming back from winter break, most Fairfax County students were especially dreading returning to school and getting back into the routine of waking up early. Naturally, when students saw the forecast calling for one to two inches of luscious white snow, the talk of having the first snow day of the school year commenced.
As students woke up on Tuesday, Jan. 6, their hopes and prayers had been answered; the ground was coated in about an inch-thick layer of powdery white snow. But much to their dismay, FCPS remained mute, indicating a normal day of school. Full of shock and disbelief, students began their morning commute only to struggle against the dangerous road conditions.
Across the county, students took to Twitter to vent their frustration about the lack of a cancellation.
I’m so hurt really thought we was about to get the day off

I seriously don’t think I’m gonna make it to school today even if I tried — Built Ford Tough (@_MOcchiato) January 6, 2015
What started out as playful banter quickly became a way for students stuck at school to vent their anger. In fact, “#CloseFCPS” was tweeted approximately 70,000 times over the course of the day.
