McLean will be hosting a spring college panel on Thursday, April 3. The event will be held at McLean in the auditorium starting at 6 p.m.
“We’ll have a mix of in-state and out of state, public, private, large and small universities,” college and career specialist Mary Barnes said. “This way, students get a perspective from everyone when they’re talking about if their school is test optional, if they have honors colleges, those types of things.”
The representatives from various colleges will first begin with a one on one Q&A session where students can ask individual questions.
“Students will be able to go up and talk to them if they want to know about the different opportunities each school offers,” Barnes said. “It’s almost like a mini college fair.”
Later on, students will also have an opportunity to ask more generalized questions.
“At 6:30, we’ll have the panel, which will answer more broad questions about the whole application process such as how to write an essay, what colleges look for in applications, finding the right schools, all those things,” Barnes said.
The event is the second college information session hosted this year. At the previous panel, students met with McLean alumni, where they answered questions about their first semester as college freshmen.
“It was really helpful, especially hearing [the alumni] talk about how you don’t actually need to apply to a large number of colleges,” junior Jason Li said. “The session made looking for colleges less stressful.”
