On Dec. 18, the Girls Leadership Committee (GLC) met in the Career Center for a holiday party to celebrate the end of the year. The members gathered to eat cookies and watch Legally Blonde, a movie inspired by female empowerment.
“I loved that the girls picked Legally Blonde to watch during our holiday celebration,” said Kathleen Otal, club sponsor for the GLC. “It was fun having snacks and seeing the girls enjoy one another’s company.”
As the GLC’s work in 2024 comes to a close, many of the members are proud of all that the club has accomplished this year and have gained many fond memories from their experiences.
“My favorite memory from GLC this year was our Halloween Peer Mentorship,” said senior Juliana Rudins, the peer mentorship project executive for GLC. “We met with our mentees at Longfellow for the first time and had an amazing turnout. We decorated cookies, played games and got to know one another.”
As GLC looks to the new year, they hope to continue growing their club with new partnerships and activities for their members in addition to their annual projects, such as the Menstrual Product Drive.
“We are really hoping to partner with GW’s Women’s Leadership Program in 2025,” Rudins said. “They reached out to us and asked if they could use GLC as an [organization] to work with and to help spread their message [of women’s empowerment].”
