McLean’s International Club hosted its first interest meeting last Thursday for their upcoming International Night. With the event taking place in February of next year, students signed up to perform and celebrate their cultural heritage.
“I think International Night will be a really good opportunity for people to get in touch with their culture and explore traditional customs,” sophomore Aimee Liu said.
International Night is an annual event hosted in McLean’s auditorium where students perform cultural songs, dances, and other talents to represent their heritage.
“With the diversity of McLean, I think it will be a great way for people to also engage with other cultures and learn about them,” Liu said.
Various student volunteers and clubs will contribute by bringing in cultural food for performers and guests to enjoy. International Club is planning to partner with McLean’s Korean Club, German Club, Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, AAA (Asian American Association), Chinese Club and more.
To ensure a strong performance from all members on the day of the event, the International Club plans to host weekly meetings every Thursday after winter break, with two full rehearsals before the official performance.
“International Night is very important because it brings the diverse McLean community together,” sophomore Ava Zhang said. “It truly shows how there are so many different cultures and traditions of people all around the world.”
