The Holiday Bazaar marks the beginning of the holidays. This is an event that allows small businesses and McLean clubs to sell different goods and gain attraction to their organization in the midst of the holiday spirit. One such club, McLean Interact, took advantage of the festivities to support their mission.
“I wanted to raise fundraising money for future instances of transportation to volunteer activities, or maybe just donate to charity,” said Chloe Jeong, president of the McLean Interact Club. “Participating in the Holiday Bazaar was a welcoming opportunity.”
Holiday Bazaar also exposed McLean Interact to the greater community.
“The Holiday Bazaar [allowed us to] promote our club, as well as sell baked goods [to raise funding],” sophomore Hanna Ni said.
McLean Interact provided various baked goods, holiday cards, mugs and an ornament decorating activity. Although baked goods and Hallmark cards were the club’s most popularly sold items, attendees found the ornament activity to be unique.
“The ornament decorations were interactive, so I enjoyed that,” freshman Eunice Kim said. “The other booths just did donations and bake sales. The Interact Club actually interacted with the students.”
In the future, McLean Interact hopes to make progress on its goals as a volunteer based club by participating in more community events.
“I want to show people about the club’s main motto of giving more and serving to others more than taking,” Jeong said. “I feel like spreading the message of charity and goodwill of the community will inspire many other people about service.”
